Memories through props

styling anna mårselius 1 styling anna mårselius 2 styling anna mårselius 3 styling anna mårselius 4I had planned to get a very unusual and glamorous start to this week by attending some of the fashion shows of Stockholm Fashion Week but ended up staying home with a sick small one instead. Tucked her in and started the race of organizing and unpacking all props that are always on the move from and back to their shelves. Most of the time I don´t even have time to unpack before I need them again but a goal for 2017 is to get things more sorted for an easy overview. Many of the props have been around for a long time and bring back so many memories with them. Several things in these images are still with me and have been used for so many jobs over the years. I have trouble parting from things that I love and tend to keep them longer than planned but as long as there is space on the shelves…This job was actually one of the very first I ever did. A photo shoot here at home together with photographer Kristofer Johnsson who I so enjoy to work with. I had made that 1×1 m plate the day before putting white tiles on one side and leaving the other in it´s natural costume of wood.

Just a few notes of some of the things in the images:

In pic 1: the gold mayfly necklace is a gift from my sister, the green vase I got from Lotta (Agaton) when cleaning out her props shelves one day on my internship with her 6 years ago, the Hermès soap I got from a close friend, that big pair of scissors looks even bigger in real life and I had rented it especially for this shoot.

In pic 2: The grey bowl has been with me for many years and we bought it in NY. We actually bought two, one for us and one for my parents. One of those gifts that are not really fit to go in your suitcase but luckily we made it. Several of the small glass bottles and the grey little box, again gifts from Lotta´s props shelves. The pink beauty I can´t remember the name of but I love how it looks like a small Japanese cherry tree in blossom.

In pic 3: That basket from Granit has been with me for so many jobs, a loyal friend. The three black stones I got from our friend´s daughter who had collected them for me as she knew what my job is about and was hoping to contribute. So sweet and thoughtful. The Maison Margiela Russian Dolls I had wished for for a really long time when receiving them as a gift and love them equally much today.

In pic 4: This one I actually made with the hope to send it to Granit so that they could see my work and hopefully would want to work with me. Back then I did many jobs without having an assignment but did pictures with photographers hoping for someone to want to pick up on them in the end. Funnily enough Granit sent a reply saying they had just done images very similar to this so that was that. But I had to start trying somewhere, right? The first two images where later published in Elle Decoration DK. So all turned out good in the end and all of these memories I keep close to my heart still today.

In the current issue of Residence Magazine this piece is out that I did together with photographer Erik Lefvander as my last job before heading on summer holiday. It´s the home of architect Johnny Andersson of Jordens Arkitekter (who also did this amazing space by the way). Some behind the scenes from the shoot – when picking up all the props I the whole time heard that my car engine did not sound as it use to. I barely got out of there with a fully packed car and just as I parked next to our house it died…Luckily after the shoot and not before. And for the image with the jeans hanging on that wall, I really wanted an extra pair and there where none available. So I want to say an extra thanks to photographer Erik that took one for the team taking this pic with no pants on and offering the best laugh of the day!

Today´s words

words 21Ok, so managed to stay away from the stomach flu for a full week even though it´s been haunting our house just to end up with a really bad food poisoning for the weekend (won’t´be eating parma ham anytime soon…). Lots and lots of work that was to say the least a challenge to juggle throughout this not so amazing experience. But! No rain, no flowers. So many fun projects at the moment and a a super exciting work trip across the world to somewhere I´ve never been next week. No I just need to manage my scare of flying and tick of all of those things to do before leaving. New week, here we go!

Things on my mind…

matta garderobvintage piecedoors

gard ottoWe are currently creating what I would call a dream bedroom for one of my clients. It comes with a walk in closet but not only that, just outside of that space there is another room (in addition to the actual bedroom section with amazing big windows and a soft warm rug to put your feet on when waking up) with an open fire place, perfect wooden floors and space for making it a dressing room deluxe. So currently on my mind, what difference a rug can make (no 1), what a beautiful vintage piece can add to a space (no 2),  how I like this solution but can´t use it for this project but have hopes for the future (no 3) & weather to use a clean and straight ottoman like this one or go a little more detailed and fun (no 4).

Thank you!

finalistlogga_arets_inredningsbloggare-420x420Thank you so much everyone for sending me to the finals of Interior Blogger of the Year 2017 in the Elle Decoration Swedish Design Awards. Super happy and proud to be among these great 9 interior bloggers in Sweden. I really do put a lot of work and love into this page so it really warms my heart that so many of you appreciate that. It´s definitely a win just to be a finalist. I´m laughing a bit when seeing all the photos of us nominees as my daughter asked me ”why are you the only one looking so angry, Mom?” Ha ha, I will work on that but trust me, I´m really not, just super uncomfortable in front of a camera.

Check out the nominees and where to vote here.

This time an apartment in Lidingö (just outside of Stockholm) with an incredible view. You can´t really see it in the pictures but if you are following me on Instagram this place was heavily featured while working there so then you know. There is a big terrace and it really feels like standing on the water while being there and the sun literally hits it from sunrise to sunset. I´ve seen the most incredible examples of both while setting the interior. I really wanted the result to stay calm and not to take over the whole impression as the view and experience of being in the apartment is so powerful in itself. So a little less colour and things than usual for me and more of a clean slate for the future owner to work from. Many thanks to JM and as always to the very best Marie Ramse and Stefan for being by my side, helping me out and saving me during late nights. And to Kristofer for once again having the patience with – this time – super strong daylight and still making it look so good. I hope you like it. Ax

Office dreams

office 1 office 2 office 3 office 4 office 5Every now and then I´m looking for an office just because I have a dream of decorating it and making it my space. But then reality checks in and I see myself not sitting on a chair that often but being out on photo shoots, meetings, props hunts etc etc and then all of a sudden an office seems like an unnecessary investment. Nevertheless, the daydream never stops and for sure I´m going to end up with my own space sometime – hopefully shared with similar minds! Until then I´ll keep on pinning spaces that inspire and this is one of them.
